Can psychological counseling alone create weight loss?
Done: Yes, if the counseling is done on a treadmill while eating slightly less calories consistently each day.
As a professional counselor and in my personal life, I have not found counseling alone to be a good weight loss program nor plan.
If psychological counseling is done along with an actual weight-loss program that is healthfully designed to lose weight, then it can be of great help. Tremendous help to compassionately and kindly face the guilt, shame, regrets, resentment and anger that rides along driving the body to want more food for comfort.
However, only when my eating plan and program was in place did the emotion and issues screamfor attention. Then, addressing those situations was very helpful and needed.
This happens when you decide to lose weight. This is often the main reason you stop: you eat too much and that is partially driven by a desire to comfort. Self-medication can be done through food just as it can be done through illegal or legal substances.
Therefore, I have personally and professionally found and observed that the cart needs to be placed directly BEFORE the horse. Choose a healthy, calorie smart weight-loss program to follow FIRST. Then, create a support network that can include counseling as it is needed to support the actions of the weight-loss plan.
Without the actions of weight-loss efforts, it will not be progressive.
With the actions of weight-loss and the support of good friends and professionals, the pounds and physical burdens can just slowly melt away.
It is contagious, by the way. Weight loss. Hope you catch it soon!
